Grade 5 students learned about Magit Poulette who attended Shubenacadie Residential School. (You can watch the video here: https://vimeo.com/143251875).

Magit had her doll and other possessions taken away from her upon arrival to the Residential School. Her chore was to clean the baseboards. She secretly took rags and used sticks to make dolls to play with as she missed her own doll so much. She was barely 4 years old.

Students made their own dolls out of rags and sticks reflecting on how it would feel to have this as your only toy... or even their only possession. Scroll through to see the Magit dolls.
